Free Class on Living in the Forest/Defensible Space Landscaping - Sat Feb 2

Amador Master Gardeners Janice Johnson and Cathy Koos Breazeal are offering a free class
combining Living in the Forest and Defensible Space Landscaping.

This class is open to the public and will teach you how to be a good steward of your property by keeping your forest healthy. Learn why you should clear brush and thin trees, and how to recognize some common pests and diseases of conifers and oaks. Learn about the wildlife that share the forest with you and how to live in harmony with them.

Cathy Koos Breazeal is also Executive Director of Fire Safe and will tell how you can save
your home and neighborhood from wildland fire, help you retain your fire insurance, and may be able
to save you money with a Defensible Space.

Join us Saturday February 2nd, 9am to noon, at the GSA Building 12200-B Airport Road, Martell.

Essays by Amador Jr. High School Students on "A Woman I Admire" - Fri Mar 8

March is Women’s History Month.  The American Association of University Women (AAUW), Amador Branch, will celebrate on Friday, March 8, 2013, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Junior High School Gym. Students from Ione and Jackson Jr. High Schools have been invited to write a short essay about “A Women I Admire”. 

The top essayists, from each school, will be showcased at the Women's History Month event. The public is welcome, at no cost.  Please join in the celebration. Refreshments will be served.

Free Basic Internet Training - Begins Mon Jan 7


Free Basic Internet Training Offered in Amador County

(Sutter Hill, CA) – Are you, or someone you know, not yet using email or the Internet? Here’s a chance to get connected!

Free, basic Internet computer courses will be offered in Amador County beginning Monday, January 7. Classes will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:00am to 12:30pm or at 1:00 to 3:30 pm in Conference Room A of the Health and Human Services Building, 10877 Conductor Blvd. in Sutter Hill. Each course will include six training sessions.

The training is part of California Connects, a federally funded program administered by the Foundation for California Community Colleges through the Great Valley Center in partnership with the Amador County Recreation Agency.

The classes are targeted at low income and/or Spanish speaking adults who are not already using the Internet and who may not have access to broadband technology. The training will cover how to use Internet search engines such as Google, how to set up and use email, and where to find free, public access computers and Internet service, as well as providing information on the availability of low cost computers and Internet service.
