Just a little information on what we are doing and what the CASH coalition is. CASH, or Calaveras Amador Start-a-Hearth coalition, was founded on the basis to bring community awareness to compression only CPR and the benefits of having our community taught in this life saving skill. For every minute that a person suffering from sudden cardiac arrest does not receive compressions, their survival rate decreases by 10%. So you can see how just a short downtime can dramatically affect the outcome of one of these emergencies. As first responders, we have an average response time in Jackson of 6 ½ minutes before we arrive on scene, that is almost a 70% decrease in the chances of us bringing somebody back to life once we arrive. By teaching our community, we are hoping that the compressions will start prior to our arrival, and help us in our job of saving. Our goal with CASH is to teach 50% of our communities within 5 years. We are still in our 1st year of being formed, but we have already taught hundreds of our citizens. This coalition is put together by various entities, such as fire departments, our local ambulance providers, hospitals, CERT teams and other volunteer based organizations.
